Forensic Science Day Celebrated with Zeal at APG Shimla University
The Department of Forensic Science at APG Shimla University celebrated Forensic Science Day with remarkable enthusiasm and academic spirit. This year’s theme, “FORENSCAPE: Exploring the Hidden Truths,” underlined the vital role of forensic science in unveiling facts and ensuring justice in society.
The celebration turned into an insightful platform where students had the opportunity to blend theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. A series of interactive and engaging activities were organized, designed to showcase the various branches of forensic investigation and their practical application. Among the highlights was a simulated crime scene investigation, where students were challenged to analyze evidence, reconstruct events, and apply investigative skills, thereby experiencing the real-world complexities faced by forensic experts. The fingerprinting booth drew great attention as participants experimented with lifting, classifying, and comparing fingerprints, discovering how such biological identifiers can decisively solve crimes. Adding a creative and lighter element to the day, the forensic selfie booth allowed students to capture memories while promoting the discipline as both exciting and innovative. Another major attraction was the poster-making competition, where students expressed forensic concepts through visual storytelling, illustrating the importance of forensic techniques in the pursuit of truth and justice.
More than fifty students from undergraduate and postgraduate programs participated with immense zeal, turning the celebration into a vibrant confluence of creativity, curiosity, and academic engagement. Their active involvement reflected a deep interest in the subject and a readiness to explore career opportunities in this ever-evolving field. For many, the event opened new perspectives on the significance of forensic science beyond textbooks and encouraged them to consider research, law enforcement, and scientific innovation as potential pathways. Several participants remarked that the day had motivated them to sharpen their skills and inspired them to embrace a research-oriented approach in their future studies.
The success of the event was credited to the dedicated guidance and planning of the Department’s faculty members, namely Dr. Atul Kumar Dubey, Prakriti Kaul, Chandrika Sharma, and Kapil Verma, who coordinated and supervised the entire program with commitment and care. Their efforts ensured not only the smooth execution of activities but also the cultivation of a spirit of inquiry and teamwork among students. In his address, Dr. Dubey emphasized that forensic science is not merely about evidence collection but about bridging the gap between law and science. “Every piece of evidence tells a story. The responsibility of forensic experts is to read that story accurately and present it in the service of justice,” he remarked. Other faculty members also highlighted that in today’s world, with the rise of cyber-crime, digital fraud, and complex criminal activities, forensic science has emerged as an indispensable discipline that demands strong fundamentals as well as innovative thinking.
The Forensic Science Day at APG Shimla University thus became a memorable confluence of knowledge, creativity, and innovation. By combining practical exercises with academic learning, the event successfully ignited curiosity and encouraged research-oriented thinking among students. It not only sharpened their scientific skills but also cultivated analytical reasoning, observational ability, and teamwork—qualities vital for budding forensic professionals.
Looking ahead, the Department of Forensic Science expressed its commitment to continue hosting such events in the future, offering students more platforms to present their talents, exchange ideas, and push the boundaries of their subject. The 2025 celebration of Forensic Science Day will be remembered as a milestone occasion that inspired young minds to explore the hidden truths of forensic science and embrace its power as a discipline dedicated to truth and justice.
